I’ve had myself a bit of an Allan week – which, I have to say, is my absolute favourite kind of week – starting a Wendy coffee and craft shopping day (oh, wait, we didn’t do that, I forgot!), moving onto late night movie ticket ordering with Emily, and then finally lunch with with all the Allan girls. See? Best week!

Lunch with the Girls

With Emily and I heading of to see Alice next week (we have tickets for the 4th! We’re very excited!) it kinda had a little impact on my crafting this week.

If, by some odd chance, you’re Emily – stop reading right now!

I love reinterpretations of Alice, and so have been wanting to do some Alice jewellery for a while. I went pretty traditional for this one, but who knows what’ll come up next.

Allans and Alice

School holidays means sleepovers in our family. When I was little I would visit my grandparents and ‘one more week’ my way through the entire holidays.

Now that I’m older, and am apparently now the cool cousin (turns out I’m cool to six-year-olds, who knew), it means sleepovers with Becca – or, more accurately “Beekie”.

I tried to get a few photos of our fun so I should share what Hannah sleepovers look like but, as usual when trying to play with Hannah, most of the photos turned out like this…

And this was the best of the blurred ones. She moves so fast that it’s often hard to get a clear shot.

This sleepover was rather low-key for a Hannah-over. There was no princesses to save nor goblins to fight. But still, we had fun.

There was blocks…

And much toy accessorising, including new scarfs for Bear (the same bear that received a dress last year) and Ted, ribbons for Skye, Lily and and Rosie, and bracelets all around.

Basically this meant that she knit a row of a scarf – all on her own! I was so proud – before giving it back to me and saying i could finish it. While she likes craft, she’s not into the organised craft-thing. She much preferred to cut the wool into little tiny bits and then knot them back together.

But Hannah knows the Becca-rules. She’s more than welcome to almost anything she can find in my craft room – but she has to actually make something. All those little bits of wool had to be used for something.

At first she thought a hat would be a good idea. Especially since it meant she could try her hand at fashion photography…

But this idea waned when it the ‘hat’ kept falling off. But new ideas flow fast with Hannah… nothing to worry about! Out came the Hannah-beads. I try to keep some Hannah-friendly supplies on hand, and these bigger beads are much easier for her to thread.

Everyone in the house was soon adorned with more bracelets, necklaces, anklets and headbands than one could ever want.

And of course, no sleepover is complete without some colouring in and a Disney movie or two…

And a bedtime story… in case you can’t tell there are about 20 toys in the bed with us

The next day was filled with more drawing, watching another movie, and riding the new scooter she got for Christmas and then a trip to Spotlight (where she managed to find a new fairy mask).

All in all we had a great time… she even tried to talk us into staying another week.

We were talking about children on twitter today – which led to the sharing of photos and eventually the sharing of our own baby photos. And while looking for an appropriate photo to send, I came across these amongst my mother’s photos.

It appears that my love of beads – not to mention the sharing and teasing – started very early in life*.

*okay, so I already knew that, but this was the first documented evidence.

Needed some more green to wear to Wicked!

I’m thinking of adding another strand or two of the seed beads… what do you think?

Just a closer look at the necklace I made to go with my fairy costume. I bound the larger beads, with the intention of making a chunkier necklace or bracelet, but didn’t have enough for what I wanted – I’m kind of happy about that now though. It’s far more versatile as it is. Looks nice wrapped around the wrist as a bracelet also.

I had a special party to go to this week. One of my favourite little girls turned three!

Renae’s daughter, Kaitlyn, had a fairy party – about which I was probably more excited than anyone my age had any right to be. Either way, I believe you can’t go to a fairy party without your wings, and so I had a lot of fun getting mine ready.

I started with a pile of goodies from Spotlight…

And ended up with this:

I did enjoy making my wand, though trying to match the paint to the cornflowers was harder than I had anticipated.

20091109 (14)

I did the detail with cling stamp and black paint – which seemed like a good idea until I had to clean the stamp.

20091109 (10)

Long necklace, to be doubled over – made with agate-looking stone and blue seed beads.

20091109 (25)

But my favourite part? The wings! I loved how they turned out, even if I couldn’t quite get them to sit straight on.

White and pink child’s tights stretched over some wire and detailed with purple, silver, and glitter paint – they really shine!

Fairy Accoutrements

I’ve been working on multiple craft projects lately – crocheted lapghans, a set of cupcakes, the Hogwarts scarf, and two patchwork cot blankets – and so, while there’s been some crafting, there hasn’t really been a lot of finishing.

So we’ll just have to settle for some craft-lite.

Finished mini-project #1: A set of matching ‘Fairy Wish’ necklaces for Hannah and myself.

Just some pink and green foiled beads stringed and knotted onto some cord.

I got the tiny glass bottles off a gift tag in the remnants bin in Lincraft. They were so tiny and so cute – they just needed to be made into something cute and girly: so Fairy Wish necklaces they became.

And mini-project #2: a day planner to last me the rest of the year. I needed one now and couldn’t put it off until the new year; just one more sign that I’m now a grown up, and I’ve got to tell you, I don’t like it.

Happy Birthday to Vickeeeeeeeey!

It’s nice to have Vicky back in the country, and just in time for her birthday too. And what does every birthday girl need for her birthday… a new necklace!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I made a pink version as well, trying to decide which she’d prefer, but I know she has a fondness for green…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

… as well as winged things. I can’t compete with the perdy dragonfly Andrew (fiance) bought her, so I thought I’d go with a flutterby.
