A while ago a friend gave me 3/4 of a ball of this squishy green wool. I didn’t know the brand, the colour, or even the blend (because it was definitely a blend of some kind). There was enough for a little project, and with being such pretty green there was really only one person to whom it should go.

On my birthday outing to the craft expo last week I got a ball of sock wool. It’s a very pretty variegated blue, which makes me very happy because finding pretty sock wool is pretty hard around here.

Lisa and I have been thinking about doing a group craft project/WAL for a little bit now – we’re both hopeless enablers, so might as well have some fun. This, though hopelessly later than I’d intended, is the next project to be started on my to-do list and when I showed her the photo she was so excited to start that she nearly killed herself with her knitting needles.

I intend to start the body and, depend how easy it is when I start, do two at a time – one of Kaitlyn and one for Hannah. I do so enjoy have little girls around – I have a legitimate reason to do the fun fairy crafts.

I wanted a pair of mittens for winter this year, mainly I think because I was quite enamoured with the Latvian mittens I saw in the Yarn Harlot’s archives. The colours, the patterns, they were just so beautiful.

Problem was, though, with my new found money-less-ness (my $100 car service turned into something much bigger… *sob*) I was restricted to working completely out of my stash. And unfortunately for me, my stash did NOT include pretty fingering weight yarn in a vast array of colours.

I finally settled (more out of frustration than anything else) on the Peekaboo Mittens pattern (free Ravelry download) and rummaged through my wool bags to come up with two balls of Patons’ Jet wool. It’s a really pretty variegated colour and it has a nice light fuzz to it (is this because it’s 30% alpaca? I’m not sure).

I’ve knitted up the first mitten – and yes, I know there’s a mistake, but it didn’t register till I’d finished, I’ll have to go back and fix it – and CO the second.

It was a very easy knit, it only took me a few hours to knit up the first one, all of which was done while watching Ellen, so there was no real need for concentration, either.
